Kate McCallister has driven home with a performing band, squished tightly into the back of their RV, and is relieved to see her son again. Soon afterwards, the rest of the family, fresh from their flight from Paris, arrive. Kevin does not tell his family about his encounter with the Wet Bandits, but when his father finds the burglar's gold tooth on the floor he wonders what could be. Kevin sees Old Man Marley out of the window and sees that he has invited his son and the family over for Christmas; he watches as they reconcile and the old man greets his beloved granddaughter. The idyllic picture is interrupted as Buzz yells out to Kevin about the state of his room.

He decides to get high, and as the paranoia side-effects set in, he believes he hears a break-in. As he discovers thieves have broken into his home, fully stoned and fueled by the weed, he tries to 'defend his castle'. Home Alone 4 is the first film in the series that was not theatrically released. Our story takes place in Chicago at Christmas time, which makes this a Christmas film. In fact, the movie has lots of Christmas decorations, lights, snow and many other details which create the feeling and magic so characteristic of Christmas.

Kevin manages to trap the bandits and they get arrested, just as his family return home. The film became the highest-grossing film of 1990, grossing $476,684,675 worldwide. It was also nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Original Score for John Williams and Best Original Song for "Somewhere in My Memory", but lost to Dances with Wolves and Dick Tracy respectively. Macaulay Culkin's performance garnered him a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, but lost to Gérard Depardieu for his performance in Green Card. Home Alone is basically about a family that leaves for vacation, but in the rush of getting out on time they forget that young Kevin McCallister was not with them on their way to the airport.

The police arrive and arrest Harry and Marv, having identified all the houses that they broke into due to Marv's destructive habit of flooding them. Kevin wakes to find the house empty, and the family cars still in the garage, unaware that they had rented vans to take them to the airport. Thinking that his wish has come true, he is overjoyed with his newfound freedom. Later, Kevin becomes frightened by his next door neighbor, "Old Man" Marley, who is rumored to be a serial killer who murdered his own family. The McCallister home is soon stalked by the "Wet Bandits", Harry and Marv, a pair of burglars who have been breaking into other vacant houses in the neighborhood.
After he took the assistant director by the collar one day to complain about this, daily call times were moved back from 7 to 9 a.m. On the other end of the schedule, the crew had limited time to film the many nighttime scenes, since Culkin could not work any later than 10 p.m. It has become quite like a tradition to watch this movie every single year for christmas. I always watch it with my whole family, even my dad joins us every time. Or when he goes shopping by himself loosing all his groceries on the street?
Box office performance
Kevin starts to miss his family and asks the local Santa Claus impersonator if he could bring his family back for Christmas. He goes to church and watches a choir perform, and encounters Marley, who proves the rumors about him are false. Marley points out his granddaughter in the choir, and mentions he has never met her since she is the daughter of his estranged son.

Home Alone is primarily a coming-of-age story about an 8-year-old boy named Kevin McCallister . He is the youngest of five children who is frequently tormented by his older brothers and sisters. After events transpire between him and his family, he wishes that he had no family when his mother is punishing him for what he feels are unjustified reasons. She warns him to be careful what he wishes for and he ignores it.
Personal life
However, as we mentioned earlier, seeing our hero overcome obstacles is what makes stories like these so rich. The obstacles seem insurmountable, and ergo, highly engaging for audiences, especially when we know our hero will survive. Similarly, at the end of the script, Kevin has a touching reunion with his mother, and surely the rest of the McAllisters understand that he should not have actually been left alone. That being said, the shift within Kevin’s own character allows him to find acceptance of the replenished rivalry between him and his relatives. They still treat him like a kid, but Kevin has gained new perspective on what it means to be lonely, and therefore can cope with it. The Home Alone script teaches us that even if we aren’t left alone in a giant home with burglars, there are actually countless ways to be lonely and to make someone feel lonely.
Meanwhile, Jeff and Pam arrive at the Mercer's and get inside. Overhearing them talk about getting an "ugly little boy", Max assumes they are talking about kidnapping and selling him. Max fears if Officer McCallister realizes he is home alone, his parents may get arrested. The thieves finally deduce that Alex has been watching them and decide to break into his house.
It is Christmas time and the McCallister family is preparing for a vacation in Paris, France. But the youngest in the family, Kevin , got into a scuffle with his older brother Buzz and was sent to his room, which is on the third floor of his house. Then, the next morning, while the rest of the family was in a rush to make it to the airport on time, they completely forgot about Kevin, who now has the house all to himself.
He takes Buzz's life savings, practices shooting with Buzz's BB gun, jumps on the bed, watches a gangster film, and eats a large amount of junk food. The funniest for me is when Harry and Marv pretend to be Santa Claus and his elf and the way Harry speaks in that scene, followed by the even funnier part when Kevin fires at Harry's pants. Whenever Kevin fools the bandits in a try to make them believe the whole family is at home when Kevin is all alone is funny too.
It does not have the depth that the movie has but it does hold the sentimental value and the excitement that you felt as you watched the movie. It touched on all the great parts of the movie that I held deep and loved and it brought it to a storybook that I could look at and enjoy. There is not the depth of the burglars but as I read along I remembered the movie and I heard the songs as if the movie was playing somewhere in another room. I really loved the illustrations and the font and text – they did an excellent job with this children’s book.
